Clarinettist Alan Shellard studied at Canterbury Christ Church University, where he was a pupil of International Clarinet Professor David Campbell. Whilst at CCCU Alan took a leading role as soloist and chamber musician, and with his own trio performed Works by Beethoven, Brahms and Muczynski in the Canterbury and Deal festivals.

In 2006 he graduated with a first-class honours degree and in 2007 with a Masters Degree in performance.

Alan’s musical life began when he became a Chorister with the Bath Abbey Choir under the direction of Peter King. The choir undertook numerous broadcasts for radio and Televison and performed in Bath’s twin cities Brunsweig, Germany and Alkmaar, Holland.

He started playing the clarinet at the age of 10 and whilst still at school performed in the county youth Orchestra and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, performing at venues such as the CBSO centre in Birmingham and London’s St.John’s Smith Square.

On completing his studies parted funded through the Corps of Army Music Bursary Scheme, Alan took up an appointed in 2008 with the Band of HM Grenadier Guards as one on their solo clarinettists. With the band he has taken part in broadcasts on television and radio major state ceremonial occasions and tours of the UK, Europe, the USA and Australia.

Alan also enjoys freelancing for various chamber ensembles and orchestras in his free time in London and the South East.
