Ben Woodgate LTCL - Clarinettist

For Sixteen years Ben Woodgate was principal clarinet of the UK's oldest symphony orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Artillery, based in Woolwich, London. A regular soloist with the Orchestra and Band, having performed in many venues around the world including the Royal Festival Hall London, Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Waldebune Stadium Berlin, The Toronto International Centre Canada, The Currium Amphitheatre Cyprus, The Keflavik Theatre in Iceland and an open air series of concerts at Leeds Castle, where he performed the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto to an audience of over 18,000 people in conjunction with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Carl Davis.

He is also the principal Clarinettist of the British Concert Orchestra and the Dartford Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has performed the Clarinet Concertos of Gerald Finzi and Mozart and next year will be premiering a concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra written for him by the composer and head of music at Kingston University, Dr David Osbon.

Ben teaches Clarinet and Saxophone at the Bexley Academy of music and performing arts. He is also an adjudicator for the Student Union Chamber Music Competitions at the Trinity College of Music. Currently, he is deputizing on the London production of 'Wicked' where he plays Soprano Saxophone, Bb, Eb and Bass clarinets. Ben can also be heard on the Special Recording Company label playing Malcolm Arnold's Clarinet Concerto No2 which has been featured on BBC Radio 3 as 'the pick of the week' and more recently has recorded the Clarinet Concerto of the late great Artie Shaw with the Royal Artillery Big Band.
